Thiago Alves is officially off UFC Copenhagen.
The Brazil native was expected to fight Gunnar Nelson on September 28; however, Alves told
MMA Fighting that he had an infection that gave him kidney stones. He’s currently taking antibiotics and is expected to be cleared to train again in a month, hoping for a return to the UFC cage around November or December.
There’s no word on whether UFC officials are looking for a replacement to fight Gunnar Nelson. UFC Copenhagen will be headlined by Jack Hermansson versus Jared Cannonier on September 28 at the Royal Arena in Copenhagen, Denmark. The card also features a light heavyweight bout between Michał Oleksiejczuk and Ovince Saint Preux.
