Typically, UFC fans want a winner at the end of a fight. But sometimes both fighters put on such a performance that neither can be declared a loser at the end of the match. Such was the case on Saturday night as flyweights Brandon Moreno and Askar Askarov left the crowd roaring after their exhilarating three-round fight.
From start to finish, the fight was nonstop action. While Askarov approached the fight with more emphasis on the ground game, Moreno was keen on keeping upright. Both fighters attempting to execute their plan, and each finding moments of success, left the match pretty hard to score.
One of the match's more thrilling moments came at the end of the second when Moreno landed a nasty kick that dropped Askarov. It was just one of the fight's multiple takedowns scored by each fighter, which also contributed to the split draw.
The fight was filled with exciting moments like this which is probably why the scores were all over the place. Askarov also fended off a rear naked choke by Moreno in the third, forcing the fight to go to a decision.
In the end, the final judges scores read 28-28, 29-28 Askarov, and 30-27 Moreno. The split draw moved No. 9-ranked Moreno to 15-5-1, while Askarov, making his UFC debut, remained unbeaten at 10-0-1.
