Could we see Tony Ferguson vs. Dustin Poirier next?

Following the latest UFC Fight Night show on Saturday night, Dana White has confirmed that the former Interim Lightweight Champion will step into the octagon very soon, though the deal hasn’t been finalized yet. The UFC President stated that Ferguson will “probably” fight Dustin Poirier next.

According to MMA Fighting, the talks between Ferguson and Poirier are on-going at the moment, with all signs pointing to a potential match-up in October; however, neither man has signed a contract just yet.

Despite his big loss against Justin Gaethje at UFC 249, Ferguson does have a chance to become the top contender again – should they face off – as Poirier is ranked at No. 2 in the lightweight division. The 31-year-old is coming off a strong victory over Dan Hooker at UFC on ESPN 12.

Poirier dropped a major hint that he’ll be fighting again in October recently on his social media account:

At the moment, there’s no word on when the potential bout could take place in October. The lightweight match-up could end up on the UFC 254 pay-per-view card, which will be headlined with Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Justin Gaethje for the UFC Lightweight title. We’ll keep you updated when more news comes to light about the match-up.
