"The Boa Constrictor" has squeeze the life out of another opponent.
MMA veteran Aleksei Oleinik, the No. 12-ranked UFC heavyweight, submitted his opponent Maurice Greene at UFC 246 on Saturday. The 42-year-old Russian submission specialist fought through fatigue to earn the 58th victory of his career.
Oleinik was dropped with a kick tot he midsection just seconds into the fight, but dragged Greene down to the mat with him. Although Greene threatened with a pair of triangle attempts and did eventually make his way back to his feet, Oleinik was quick to bring him back into his world on the canvas. Oleinik appeared to lock in a vicious choke, but Greene somehow managed to hold on to make it to the next round.
With both fighters gassed to start the second, Oleinik — fatigued from going all-in on the submission in the previous round — was able to get the takedown. After a bit of struggling on the canvas, "The Boa Constrictor" locked in the armbar that forced Greene to tap.
With the win, the No. 12-ranked Oleinik earned his 58th career victory. It was his 46th win by submission (6th while in the UFC). It also snapped his two-fight losing streak. Greene fell to 8-5.
