Former UFC Bantamweight Champion Cody Garbrandt is looking to get back on track this weekend.
At UFC 207, Garbrandt shocked the MMA world by getting a unanimous decision win over Dominick Cruz. Going in, Cruz was heavily favored as the winner of the UFC Bantamweight title match-up, with the 35-year-old in the midst of an 11-fight winning streak. Despite wins over top tier fighters such as Urijah Faber, T.J. Dillashaw, and Demetrius Johnson, Cruz was ultimately done by the newcomer in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Unfortunately, Garbrandt didn’t enjoy his championship reign for long as T.J. Dillashaw beat the Ohio native in his first title defense, and the 28-year-old has been on a losing streak ever since. At the moment, Garbrandt is #9 in the division rankings.
Raphael Assuncao enters the fight in need of a victory as well, with the bantamweight’s four-fight winning streak halted by Marlon Moraes at UFC Fight Night 144, and then another loss to Cory Sandhagen sent the Brazilian down to #5 in the top 15 rankings.
