Jose Aldo is back, baby!
The greatest featherweight champion of all-time proved that he's still got some gas left in the tank. Aldo hasn't dominated the division as he did for nearly a decade from 2004 to 2014, but the Brazilian remains one of the sport's most entertaining fighters. And at UFC Fight Night 144 in Fortaleza, Brazil, he showed proved why his fights are a must-watch.
Facing fellow Brazilian fighter and rising featherweight contender Renato Moicano, this was a chance for Aldo to prove he's still a worthy championship contender. And prove himself he did, defeating Renato Moicano via TKO 44 seconds into the second round on Saturday.
After a first round that consisted of both fighters feeling each other out, Aldo turned up the heat in the second. Aldo came out aggressive to start the round, but it was a shot to the body that opened up a series of flurries and an eventual hook up top that sent Moicano reeling backward. Aldo relentlessly stalked his prey, aggressively landing strikes until the referee stepped in and waved it off. Check out the incredible finish below.
It was an impressive victory for Aldo, who is now 28-14 with his 18th career submission victory. The longtime former UFC and WEC featherweight champ previously vowed that this will be the final year of his career; but, after turning back the clock with this statement victory, who knows what the future holds for him. Moicano, meanwhile, is 13-2-1 with his two-fight win streak snapped.
