Could we see Jon Jones vs. Mike Tyson instead?
It appears that for the time being, the reigning UFC Light Heavyweight Champion won’t be stepping into the octagon anytime soon due to Jones currently having a financial dispute with Dana White and the UFC.
Boxing legend Mike Tyson has been teasing a return to the squared circle after the 53-year-old showcased that he’s in tremendous shape for a possible in-ring return. While names such as Evander Holyfield, former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Tito Ortiz, Tyson Fury, and former UFC Heavyweight Champion Andrei Arlovski have all been teased to possibly step into the ring at one point against Tyson, Jon Jones may be the man that ends up fighting the veteran.
Tyson gave his views on fighter pay and believes that the athletes in the UFC would never be paid higher than a boxer. Tyson then tells Jon Jones that he would need to get into the ring against somebody like him if he wanted a big payday:
“A UFC [fighter] will never be richer than a first class [boxer],” Tyson said during a recent live chat (Transcript courtesy of MMA Fighting). “To make a hundred million dollars, Conor [McGregor] had to fight Floyd [Mayweather]! Even if he fights Jon Jones, he’s not going to get that. Jon Jones gotta fight me if he wants to make some super money.”
Jones responded to the legendary boxer and the UFC Light Heavyweight Champion is willing to step into the ring against one of the all-time greats in boxing:
Mike Tyson hasn’t responded to Jones regarding a fight, though the athlete continues to train for a possible in-ring return someday.
