UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones will defend his belt against undefeated contender Dominick Reyes in the headliner for the February 8 pay-per-view event in Houston. UFC president Dana White confirmed the 205-pound championship fight to ESPN.
Jon Jones, who is widely considered the greatest fighter of all time, won the vacant light heavyweight championship in December 2018, knocking out Alexander Gustafsson. He defended it twice in 2019 against Anthony Smith and Thiago Santos, winning both matches by decision.
With Daniel Cormier, the No. 2 ranked light heavyweight, targeting a trilogy match with heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic, Dominick Reyes is next in line for the light heavyweight title shot. Reyes is currently 6-0 in the UFC and is coming off a first-round knockout of Chris Weidman in October. He has wins over Volkan Oezdemir and Ovince Saint Preux.
The pay-per-view event, which will also feature a title match between flyweight champion Valentina Shevchenko and No. 1 contender Katlyn Chookagian, does not yet have an official number. The UFC has not yet announced its schedule for the first quarter of 2020.
