Unfortunately, UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones has gotten himself into trouble once again.
On Thursday, the 32-year-old was arrested for aggravated DWI, negligent use of firearms, possession of open container, and no proof of insurance in vehicle in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Thanks to an arrest report acquired by MMA Junkie, officer Jason Brown and officer Brian Johnson – the two cops who responded to the scene – said Jones had “had green leafy substance on his shirt and pants, consistent with marijuana” and “an odor of alcohol coming from his facial area.”
Also, his eyes were bloodshot, watery, and had a strong scent of alcohol coming from his face. The report also states that the UFC Light Heavyweight Champion failed each of the field sobriety tests. As of now, Jones is no longer in custody; however, the UFC fighter will have to go back to court for a bond arraignment hearing set for April 8.
The UFC already released a statement to ESPN, noting that they have been in contact with Jones’ management team and continue to monitor the situation closely.
This isn’t Jones’ first brush with the law; however, the UFC Light Heavyweight Champion hasn’t been in any trouble since returning to the octagon back in December 2018. There’s no word on whether UFC officials are considering the possibly of stripping the title off of Jones; however, we’ll keep you updated on this story as it continues to unfold.
