No. 10-ranked bantamweight contender Irene Aldana put on a nearly flawless technical performance in her fight against Vanessa Melo at UFC Fight Night 159 in Mexico City.
For three rounds, Aldana worked Melo with a combination of precision punches and kicks. Using her height and reach to her advantage, Aldana kept Melo at a distance where she could continue to chip away and outpoint her. Melo did try and close the gap on multiple occasions, but every time she stepped forward, she ate more shots.
It actually looked like Aldana was close to finishing Melo, but to the UFC rookie's credit, she hung tough until the final bell.
All three judges scored it 30-26 for Aldana, who picked up her fourth win her past five fights. Melo, who replaced Marion Reneau on short noticed, fell to 10-6.
