Last week, the United States Anti-Doping Agency
handed UFC star Jon Jones a 15-month suspension testing positive for metabolites of an anabolic steroid on July 28, 2017. With the suspension being retroactive to the date of the test, it means Jones is
eligible to return to the Octagon as early as next month; but, it's more likely he'll return in early 2019, according to UFC president Dana White.
The real mystery is who Jones will face in his return. Although Jones had previously challenged Brock Lesnar after defeating Cormier in 2017, Cormier is the current light heavyweight and heavyweight champion. Of course, Jones did hold each of those belts individually at different points in his career, most recently the light heavyweight after defeating Cormier at UFC 214. Regarded by many as the greatest fighter of all time, Jones - who hasn't actually lost his belts due to a fight - figures to get a chance to earn at least one of them back in his return.
As UFC president Dana White explained on First Take, that puts him in line to fight Daniel Cormier. Jones has already defeated Cormier twice before, but the current champion has acknowledged that he wants a third crack at Jones. Whether or not he gets that chance remains to be seen, as it seems he has a feud going with Brock Lesnar right now. The conversation regarding Jon Jones begins at around the 5-minute mark.
