Following his impressive win over Rafael dos Anjos at UFC San Antonio on Saturday night, Leon Edwards didn't campaign for a title shot against Kamaru Usman. He instead he called out Jorge Masvidal, a top-ranked contender whom Edwards referred to as a "little weasel."
“There’s a little weasel called Jorge Masvidal. Accept the fight and let’s do it. You’re not on my level. Let’s make the fight happen. Me, Jorge Masvidal. Let’s make the fight happen," Edwards challenged during the post-fight interview. For some, it may seem odd that Edwards would want Masvidal instead of Usman, but it seems he's seeking revenge for the backstage scuffle that occured back in March.
It didn't take long for Jorge Masvidal to take notice, and the No. 3 ranked welterweight responded on social media. "Big difference between putting top ranked opponents to sleep and putting fans to sleep," Masvidal said, referring to his impressive back-to-back knockouts of Darren Till and Ben Askren. Masvidal sent a second tweet shortly after that reiterated his desire to fight for the belt.
