After initial reports that came out stating that Kamaru Usman and Colby Covington were set for UFC 244 at Madison Square Garden, it appears that the fight may not happen after all.

Ariel Helwani reports that negotiations for the championship bout have stalled in recent days, thus putting the fight in jeopardy.

At the moment, there’s no word on why the negotiations are falling through, though Covington had no problem blaming the welterweight champion for being afraid to fight him:

It’s being reported that UFC officials are currently looking for another title fight or a different main event. One of the big fights that could possibly headline the show is Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz.  Helwani also reported that Usman-Masvidal has been considered but that has also run into issues, and Usman in turn tweeted out a response dismissing Masvidal.

We’ll keep you posted on when the official main event for UFC 244 is confirmed.
