Walt Harris penned a classy statement over his fight against Alistair Overeem.
The heavyweight finally got a chance to face the former Strikeforce Heavyweight Champion in the main event of UFC Fight Night 172; Harris came out strong with strikes that seemed to signal another victory for the 36-year-old. However, Overeem rebounded in the second round and got the knockout victory over Harris.
This snapped a winning streak for Harris, who was coming into the contest hot with big wins over Daniel Spitz (via TKO at UFC Fight Night 131), Sergey Spivak (via TKO at UFC Fight Night 151), and Aleksei Oleinik (via KO at UFC on ESPN 4). Despite the heartbreaking loss, Harris reflected on his fight against Overeem on Saturday:
Originally, Harris and Overeem were set to clash at UFC Fight Night: Washington D.C.; however, Harris was forced to pull out due to the tragic passing of his stepdaughter Aniah Blanchard. The fight between the two heavyweights was definitely an emotional encounter, and here’s wishing Harris well in his future bouts coming up.
