The long-awaited female superfight between featherweight champion Cris "Cyborg" Justino and bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes will finally take place at UFC 232 on December 29 in Las Vegas. UFC president Dana White has confirmed the fight with additional sources telling ESPN that both fighters have also agreed to the bout, which will be for Justino's 145-pound featherweight title.

White reportedly doesn't know yet whether or not it will be the card's main event, but the highly anticipated fight figures to draw significant interest from UFC fans who have been clamoring to see this matchup. The superfight has been in the works for a while with both fighters going back and forth on social media. Justino (20-1) publically called for the fight to happen in September, but Nunes (16-4) wanted it scheduled for December as she was dealing with a foot injury.

This will be Justino's third time defending her featherweight title. She previously recorded defenses against Holly Holm and Yana Kunitskaya.

Nunes, meanwhile, has the chance to become the first woman in UFC history to hold championships in two weight classes. She became the 135-pound bantamweight champion at UFC 200 in July 2016 when she submitted Miesha Tate, and she has since defended her title against Ronda Rousey, Valentina Shevchenko, and Raquel Pennington. She's currently riding a seven-fight win streak.

But Nunes will most certainly have her hands full with Justino, who is widely regarded as the most dominant female MMA fighter in the world. Justino lost her pro debut on May 17, 2015, when she submitted to Erica Paes, but has since gone 20-0 with a no contest since. She's 5-0 in the UFC and 3-0 in title matches.

UFC 232 will take place at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on December 29. In the meantime, UFC fans have another superfight to look forward to. Earlier this month, UFC announced that Conor McGregor will return to the Octagon after a nearly two-year hiatus to challenge Khabib Nurmagomedov for the lightweight title at UFC 229 on October 6.
