This Saturday, Roman Reigns will defend his Undisputed WWE Universal Championship against Drew McIntyre at Clash at the Castle. Taking place in Cardiff, Wales, it looks set to be something of a homecoming for the Scottish Superstar, and WWE has been hyping that up with a number of chill-inducing video packages.
It's hard to imagine McIntyre not walking out with the titles but, at the same time, is this where WWE will end Reigns' near-record 2+ year reign as champion?
Common sense says WWE should split the titles, giving the company a part-time champion in Reigns (allowing him to break more records) and a regular title holder in McIntyre. We have to wonder if that's among the ideas considered as it's now being reported that WWE is indeed thinking about having the Head of the Table drop his belts at Clash at the Castle.
"For the first time in a long time, there has been some discussions creatively regarding Roman Reigns dropping the title(s)," reveals @WrestleVotes. "I’m hearing multiple ideas have intrigued those making the final call come Saturday in Cardiff. Should be an interesting week ahead..."
A decision doesn't appear to have been made yet, but we'd be shocked if some sort of surprise for the event isn't planned.
It's possible a screwy finish is being planned, of course, with Tyson Fury and Karrion Kross among the most likely candidates for who could attack McIntyre and cost him the win. At this point, though, it does feel like WWE is at least attempting to move on from that sort of booking in the post-Vince McMahon era.
How do you see things play out at Clash at the Castle this weekend?
