Adam Cole signed a new deal with WWE earlier this year that would keep him with NXT through SummerSlam. As of now, his status with the company is unclear, though the expectation among many fans is that he will leave and sign with AEW (the home of real-life girlfriend Britt Baker).
A couple of weeks ago, we heard that Cole had a meeting with WWE Chairman Vince McMahon about his WWE future that is said to have gone well. Of course, if the former NXT Champion has any sense, he'll see how someone like Karrion Kross has been treated on the main roster in recent weeks and get the hell out of there as quickly as possible (especially with this NXT rebrand on the way).
Now, Andrew Zarian of the Mat Men Pro Wrestling podcast has shared an update (via WrestlingNews.co).
"With people that I spoke to within WWE, for the longest time the anticipation was that he would re-sign with WWE. Something changed," he reveals on the latest episode. "Now I’m not being told that he’s leaving, I’m also not being told that he’s signing with WWE."
"The conversation with Vince McMahon apparently went well. That was a positive conversation at that SmackDown on Friday a couple of weeks ago. I don’t know what changed."
Cole's contract actually ends tomorrow, and with no non-compete in place, we could even see him show up on AEW Dynamite as soon as next week (this Friday's Rampage was taped in advance).
Keep checking back here for further updates as we have them.
