Christian Cage made his surprise in-ring return during the Royal Rumble PPV, and the expectation was that he would then sign with WWE (or was already signed). However, the former World Heavyweight Champion shocked the world when he instead decided to join All Elite Wrestling.
WWE has always pushed Edge over Christian, so he likely realised that he could do more than play second fiddle to his former tag team partner by joining a different company. Regardless, before making that decision to be on Dynamite each week, Cage hoped to feud with former Universal Champion Kevin Owens.
"I really like the passion that he has. I like the way that he delivers his promos," Cage explained on the AEW Unrestricted podcast. "I think he’s fearless when he delivers his promos. I think that he’s a fearless competitor in the ring as well. I just like his style. Sami Zayn as well. I thought, especially with his character the way it is now, we could have done some pretty special things."
"So, off the top of my head, I would say probably those two guys," he concluded, teasing us with matches that are unlikely to ever happen now. Honestly, that's a damn shame!
Still, there are plenty of top tier pro wrestlers Cage can battle in AEW, and we know he's already set his sights on Kenny Omega. Plus, you never know who will jump ship to that company these days...
