After WWE officially announced that Jade Cargill has been signed to a multi-year deal, the world of professional wrestling has been buzzing. Cody Rhodes' defection from AEW was obviously huge but Cargill doesn't have a history with WWE beyond a tryout several years ago.
As a result, wrestling fans who don't watch AEW may not even know who the former TBS Champion is, but the fact WWE has treated Jade like a big deal is already paying off. As of now, the video of her arriving at the WWE Performance Center has racked up 5.9 million views, with the announcement post surging past 14.9 million.
We're sure a number of AEW stars are keeping an eye on this and, in an interview with Sports Illustrated, Cargill made it clear she's come to WWE with the intention of heading to the main event on the Grandest Stage of Them All.
"I understand what I’m here for. I want to capture gold and I want to headline WrestleMania, but none of that is handed out," she says. "I want to work to create those phenomenal moments. I want to have marquee matches, I want to get people talking, and I want to create something bigger than myself."
In a separate conversation with ESPN, Cargill also confirmed that she knows which of WWE's three brands - RAW, SmackDown, and NXT - she's heading to. "Everybody’s gonna have to tune in to every network and see where I’m going. That’s what I’m here for. I’m here to stir the pot and to get people guessing where I’m going to be, so just tune in."
As for whether Cargill feels she's been treated like a star by WWE thus far, she added, "Yes, I would say that. I think that they see that it’s in me. I think they know that I work hard and that I’ll bring that hard work over here to the PC, and that I’ll do what it takes to be a household name and to create that legacy."
Here's the kicker for AEW President Tony Khan, though; while speaking to The Ringer Wrestling Show, Cargill credited former AEW EVP Cody Rhodes with convincing her to take her shot at the big time by signing with WWE. He'd best hope MJF has lost Cody's number!
