AJ Styles Retains The IC Championship On SMACKDOWN; Baron Corbin Attacks Matt Riddle After The Match

It didn't turn out to be the easy win AJ Styles was expecting, but the Phenomenal One did walk away with his Intercontinental Championship in tow after defeating Matt Riddle in the main event of SmackDown.

AJ Styles is still Intercontinental Champion after a hard-fought win over Matt Riddle in the main event of Friday Night SmackDown.

We expected a great match here, and weren't disappointed. Both of these guys are polarizing figures in the world of pro-wrestling, but nobody can deny that they are two of the very best in-ring talents working today, and they proved that once again.

Riddle actually dominated in the early going, throwing Styles off his game with a barrage of quick strikes and counters. The Phenomenal One soon gained the upper hand, however, and we were treated to a wrestling clinic before he managed to score a roll-up pin to retain the title.

Not a definitive victory by any means, but it keeps the King of Bros looking strong even in defeat.

Afterwards, AJ shook his opponent's hand, but the show of respect was cut short when King Corbin attacked Riddle from behind and took him out with the End of Days. This obviously sets up Matt's next feud, so expect a match announcement for next week - if not a late addition to tomorrow's Extreme Rules card.
