Apollo Crews got his rematch for the United States Championship on Raw this week, and emerged victorious with his first taste of gold in WWE.
Crews injured (storyline) in knee during his last US title match with Andrade a few weeks ago, and despite speculation that his frustrations would ultimately lead to a heel turn, he returned last week and attacked Zelina Vega's faction with the help of Kevin Owens to set up last night's match.
Apollo and Andrade went back and forth in a solid, but far-too-short encounter with several near falls. The champion came close to retaining on several occasions, but Crews was able to weather the storm of offence and used his incredible power to press slam his opponent and follow up with a standing moonsalt/standing shooting star press combo for the pinfall victory.
Apollo Crews has long been viewed as one of the most underrated and underutilized talents in WWE, so his first title with the company is certainly a major milestone in his career. How long he'll be able to hold on to it remains to be seen, but we hope he gets a well-deserved lengthy run.
