Asuka Defeated Mickie James To Retain Her Title On RAW, But Something Went VERY Wrong With The Finish

Yeah, we're really not sure what the heck happened here. Asuka is still the Raw Women's Champion after (somehow) defeating Mickie James, but there was definitely some confusion relating to the finish...

Asuka retained her Raw Women's Championship last night after a very sloppy match with Mickie James, and the finish has resulted in a lot of debate online.

The conclusion of the bout saw The Empress of Tomorrow lock in the Asuka Lock on her opponent, but as James struggled to escape, the ref called for the bell. There didn't appear to be a vocal submission or tap-out, and Mickie's face definitely suggested that she was just as surprised by the decision as the fans.

The announcers said the official stopped the match because James was "unable to continue," which may suggest that the veteran sustained an injury during the match and was trying to work through it. The ref's call may have been prompted by someone backstage, or he may have made the decision himself after noticing something the cameras didn't pick up.

It's also possible that Mickie hit her head earlier in the match and suffered a concussion. This would explain why the bout was so messy, as someone was clearly off their game here.

WWE will likely share an official report on what happened soon, so keep an eye out for updates.
