In a bit of stunning news, Becky Lynch will be challenging Asuka for the Smackdown Women’s championship at the Royal Rumble. The company touted that they were no longer doing the rematch clause stipulation, which was stated when AOP tried to cash in on their rematch opportunity this past Monday, but it appears that idea was nixed very quickly.
Lynch is heavily rumored to take on Ronda Rousey at WrestleMania 35, thus it makes sense for the company to keep ‘The Man’ busy.
The former Smackdown Women’s champion could always lose her match against Asuka and then enter the women’s Rumble and win, in order to challenge for the RAW Women’s championship; however, it’s a bit shocking that the company is going to have Becky lose to Asuka first, if that’s the plan as Becky dropping the title back at TLC was designed to protect her from taking a pinfall or submission loss.
