There's been a lot of chatter surrounding Jeff Hardy this week. As you'll recall, he was released by WWE last year following reports of erratic behaviour at a Live event (with the belief being his past substance abuse issues may have resurfaced). The company offered Hardy rehab, he refused, and was subsequently fired. Now, they're looking to bring him back.
Why? Because Jeff appears to be considering joining his brother Matt in AEW!
According to Dave Meltzer during the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Matt wants his brother in AEW so they can reform the Hardy Boyz and have one final run against some of the best tag teams in the world (FTR and The Young Bucks, for example). Needless to say, that would be a huge draw for AEW, but it doesn't sound like talks are actively taking place...yet.
WWE drug tested Hardy prior to his release, but the results from that have only recently come back. The former WWE Champion has reportedly argued his innocence from day one, and the company clearly acted in haste as it was a negative test. It's not an alcohol test, of course, but anyone who jumped to the conclusion this incident could be drug-related were way off base.
As for why Hardy was acting so oddly during that house show, Meltzer added: "I don’t know. He’ll have to talk about that from his side. I don’t know the answer to that."
It now remains to be seen whether Jeff will head to AEW (and whether Tony Khan is interested) or be tempted back to WWE for what you have to believe would be a lucrative deal.
We'll keep you updated.
