Baron Corbin has had an interesting run in WWE, though he's often credited in part with the company's decline in ratings after his run as an authority figure led to significant backlash (there's heat and then there's go away heat). That angle even led to WWE promising a fresh start for RAW and SmackDown, though it didn't result in "Happy Corbin" receiving death threats.
What did was a big match at the Extreme Rules PPV back in 2019.
During that event Corbin teamed with Lacey Evans to take on Seth Rollins and Becky Lynch. It was there the dastardly heel hit "The Man" with his finishing move and a lot of fans weren't happy.
"When I hit Becky with the End of Days, I was getting death threats," he recalled on the latest episode of the Out of Character Podcast with Ryan Satin. "On a regular basis. 95% of [critics] are on the internet or safely behind somewhere they can’t be accessed. Roman said it the best one time, that he’s never met a hater in real life. That’s the same kind of thing with me."
It was a shocking moment, and definitely one of the worst things Corbin has done a bad guy on WWE programming. It's surprising to hear some took this so seriously, but if nothing else, it proves kayfabe isn't completely dead! The interview is worth checking out as the SmackDown Superstar also talks about having to visit his kid's school looking rough as "Sad Corbin" a little earlier this year.
Here's that match in its entirety:
