With New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski formally announcing his retirement from the NFL, there's been growing speculation that he could make the jump from professional football to professional wrestling.
Gronkowski certainly has a big enough personality to entertain the WWE masses and he's definitely a physical specimen capable of holding his own in the ring, despite his lack of formal training. There are plenty of people who would love to see the former NFL superstar make the jump. But not everyone in the WWE is wild about the idea, including rising superstar Becky Lynch.
TMZ asked recently asked The Man for her thoughts on the idea of Gronk joining the WWE.
"Wouldn't that be nice to never have done anything in wrestling and just go into WrestleMania? I would love that," Lynch responded when asked about Gronk possibly being a star of Wrestlemania. "Some of us almost get fired and have to work our way and scratch and claw, and come to the main event. Other people are like here you go, here's your debut match at Wrestlemania... see you at Wrestlemania"
It's easy to understand where Lynch is coming from, as she spent years on the independent wrestling circuit and had to overcome a serious head injury before breaking into the WWE in 2013. Since then, she's had to climb the ranks into WWE superstardom. After winning the 2019 women's Royal Rumble match, she's now set to wrestle Charlotte Flair and Ronda Rousey in a triple-threat match for the Raw Women's Championship as the main event of Wrestlemania.
But Lynch's frustration seems to be more of an indictment of the WWE, which also put former UFC fighter Ronda Rousey on the fast-track to WWE Superstardom. Although it can be argued that as a former UFC champion, she's a bit more deserving than Gronk would be.
Still, the WWE is in the business of entertainment and as Rob Gronkowski proved both on and off the football field, he's as entertaining as they come. Not to mention, he does have some experience in the ring as he made a cameo at Wrestlemania 33 in 2017.
