Asuka was recently crowned Raw Women's Champion after Becky Lynch decided to relinquish the title in order to start a family with fiance Seth Rollins. The Empress of Tomorrow had won the Money in the Bank briefcase the previous night, and was the obvious choice to carry the strap in Lynch's absence.
During an interview with Sports Illustrated, Becky was asked how she felt about handing over the title to her old rival, and revealed that she was proud to be able to pass the gold on to someone that truly deserved to be champion.
“Passing that championship onto Asuka meant a lot,” said Lynch. “She really, really deserves it. And another element that people missed, because it’s not really advertised, is that she’s a working mom. She’s proven that you can do it all. You can be a badass and go off and have a family, you can come in and still kick more ass, have a YouTube show and be entertaining as all hell. The fact that she was the person to take that title from me meant a lot to me.”
Bex was visibly emotional during this segment, and Asuka reportedly had no idea that she was going to announce her pregnancy, which makes the moment even more touching.
Asuka's first challenger will likely be Nia Jax, who will compete in a triple-threat match with Charlotte Flair and Natalya later tonight on Raw to determine the new No. 1 contender.
