Becky Lynch is a huge fan-favourite, and that made her actions at SummerSlam all the more confusing. "The Man" finally returned to WWE during the PPV, took out Carmella, and then proceeded to pin SmackDown Women's Champion Bianca Belair after just a single move.
Considering the fact Belair is a babyface, this felt like a bad booking decision and one that's led to many fans turning on Lynch. Now, it seems like that was the point because PWInsider.com is reporting that WWE plans to portray the new champion as a top heel on SmackDown.
The site has also confirmed that WWE knew at least 8 days prior to SummerSlam that Sasha Banks would not be at the show, but decided to continue falsely advertising the match anyway. Apparently, the company hoped that by not revealing The Boss' absence, this would be a bigger surprise; it certainly was one, of course, but many feel cheated that WWE kept hyping a highly anticipated rematch they knew couldn't take place (the reason for Banks' absence still isn't 100% clear).
As for Lynch's quick win, that was a Vince McMahon decision and one he felt would get a bigger pop from fans than a regular wrestling match. What this means for Belair is unclear, but there are those who already believe that she's being treated the same way as Kofi Kingston when he lost the WWE Championship to Brock Lesnar in a matter of seconds.
