Former WWE Champion Bobby Lashley is currently doing the rounds to promote the Survivor Series PPV, and he's now become the latest WWE Superstar to indirectly share his thoughts on AEW. While he started by saying competition is a good thing, Lashley went on to make it clear that he doesn't feel there are any companies out there who pose a serious threat to the sports entertainment giant.
"I think that it’s a good time to be a wrestling fan...I don’t think really we have any serious competition. But the fans like it, the fans like the fact that there are other things going on that forces us to step up." The problem is WWE isn't stepping up, and while it's true AEW Dynamite won't be beating RAW in the ratings anytime soon, the gap between the shows is starting to narrow.
AEW certainly has the edge in terms of critical acclaim, anyway, but for Lashley, he believes there's a big difference between WWE's "Superstars" and AEW's "great wrestlers."
"I think myself and a lot of the other guys wish some of the other competition does step up because we’re ready. If you look at our roster, our roster is deep," he said in a year that's seen WWE release over 80 wrestlers. "There’s one to have great wrestlers, and there’s another thing to have Superstars. We’re chalk-loaded with both. We have guys that are just pure Superstars, and you can take outside of our wrestling world will do other things, and they’re going to be Superstars."
"And we have some guys that are in the dressing room that are just great wrestlers. We have a little bit of everything," Lashley continued. "I think everyone here is like, if we need to step up, we have all the talent to be able to do it."
Well, he's entitled to his opinion and no one can blame Lashley for bigging up the company he works for. However, some of his remarks feel way off base, and we're not sure the likes of CM Punk, Bryan Danielson, Darby Allin, and Kenny Omega don't fit into that "Superstar" category.
