With rumours swirling that some big releases were heading our way today, we were expecting at least a few surprises, but certainly not as many as what you'll find here.
In a brief statement shared on WWE's website, the company has revealed: "WWE has come to terms on the releases of Braun Strowman, Aleister Black, Lana, Murphy, Ruby Riott and Santana Garrett. WWE wishes them the best in all of their future endeavors."
Strowman has been pushed as a top star in WWE, winning the Universal Championship and even featured in one of WrestleMania Backlash's main events alongside Drew McIntyre and Bobby Lashley last month. The Monster Among Men has always been a company man, so this wasn't one we saw coming.
Black, meanwhile, recently returning to SmackDown after weeks of promos to start a feud with Big E. Clearly, something has changed, as the long-unhappy wrestler finally has his freedom (the writing appeared to be on the wall for his WWE future after wife Zelina Vega was shockingly released last year).
Lana is now free to follow Miro to AEW - despite being in RAW storylines lately - while Murphy and Ruby Riott have both appeared sporadically in recent months (the latter is a bigger shock than the former). As for Santana Garrett, she's really not done much on the main roster beyond what we saw in NXT.
More releases could be coming, but we doubt they'd be any bigger than this...
