Braun Strowman Defeats The Miz & Morrison In A Handicap Match To Retain The Universal Title At BACKLASH

It was a match nobody - including the participants, we'll wager - wanted to see, and it turned out to be even more uneventful and pointless than we expected. Yes, Braun Strowman is still Universal Champion.

Braun Strowman is still Universal Champion after defeating both The Miz and John Morrison in a handicap match at Backlash.

This match came about when M & M claimed that there was no way The Monster Among Men could beat them both at the same time. Spoiler alert: He could and did.

The tag-team did have Strowman reeling on a couple of occasions, and actually looked like they might pick up the win when The Miz hit an assisted Skull Crushing Finale from the top rope. But when Morrison went for the pin, he dragged his partner off, and that was the beginning of the end. The Monster took Miz out with a clothesline and then hit his Running Powerslam on Morrison to win the match and retain the title.

As filler matches while WWE figures out Strowman's next actual challenger for the Universal Championship go... this was still pretty terrible.
