According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer, Cain Velasquez will make his return to the WWE very shortly. The former UFC Heavyweight Champion is reportedly booked for the Royal Rumble on January 26 in Houston, Texas, though it’s unclear what his role will be.
Velasquez has been off of television since losing to Brock Lesnar in squash like fashion at WWE Crown Jewel on Oct. 31. The incredibly short match-up stemmed from the former UFC Fighter dealing with a knee injury that requires surgery. There’s no word on when the 37-year-old will get the much needed operation.
Velasquez did wrestle on the Nov. 30 WWE live event in Mexico City, teaming with Humberto Carrillo to defeat The OC (Luke Gallows & Karl Anderson). There have been reports that WWE was looking to book a rematch between Lesnar and Velasquez at WrestleMania 36; however, that remains pure speculation at this point.
Velasquez signed a lucrative deal with the company back in October, though it’s not clear whether he’ll wrestle regularly or have a Brock Lesnar type schedule.
