The development on Chris Jericho and the WWE’s relationship is an interesting one. For the last several weeks, rumors have spread that the current IWGP Intercontinental champion could possibly show up to Impact Wrestling. He even recently tweeted that 2019 is going to be an interesting year for him. The disconnect between Jericho and Vince McMahon is starting to become clear.
On the latest episode of his “Talk Is Jericho” podcast, Jericho reveals that he recently pitched to WWE the idea of an IWGP vs WWE IC Title match, in which he would face Seth Rollins, who was likely the Champion at the time Jericho had the idea.
“I placed a call to a certain head of a certain wrestling company and said ‘I’ve got something for you, it’s big time”, said Jericho, h/t to Fightful.com for the transcription. “What do you think about first time ever Intercontinental Champion versus Intercontinental Champion. Jericho versus Rollins. What’s the finish? doesn’t matter. New Japan versus WWE and you can make this happen”.
WWE appeared to have “some” interest in the match, and Jericho actually planned to appear on Raw on August 13th to attack Seth Rollins to make it official, but Jericho claims he never heard back from WWE on the idea, which is a shame because Rollins vs. Jericho could’ve been a really fun match.
