As or right now, Neville's status very much remains up in the air. There have been rumblings that WWE is trying to get him to stay with the company but things aren't looking good and it appears as if we'll see the former Cruiserweight Champion on the independent circuit sooner rather than later. Now, WWE veteran Chris Jericho has weighed in on the possibility of Neville parting ways with them.
Y2J doesn't seem particularly surprised that Neville is looking elsewhere for opportunities which weren't given to him as part of the 205 Live roster and compares him to old rival Chris Benoit.
"It doesn't surprise me because I think a guy like Neville, whenever I worked with him we had great matches. He reminds me a lot, actually, of working with Chris Benoit in that he's very hard-hitting, he's very solid, very graceful and not stiff in the least, just a really innovative, smart worker. I think he wasn't really getting his shot in the WWE, and the cruiserweight thing is fine but let's be honest, it is what it is. I think there's a lot higher potential for a guy like Neville in the ring and also the character."
There's no getting around the fact that Neville could be better utilised on the main roster than as a Cruiserweight and he deserves better than losing to Enzo Amore during the main event of RAW! Like most fans, though, Jericho is confident that the former NXT Champion could find success on the independent circuit, making a better living and ultimately being much happier than he was in WWE.
"If he left you know that he's gonna be one of those guys like Cody Rhodes, guys like the Young Bucks and Will Ospreay and Marty Scurll that are making a choice not to be in WWE and proving that it's not the be-all, end-all if you're not there. Look at Tommy (Dreamer) with House Of Hardcore, very successful outside of the reins of the WWE."
