Last night's episode of RAW saw General Manager Adam Pearce welcome CM Punk to the ring. The Best in the World started by reflecting on his journey, revealing that after debuting for WWE in Cleveland, he was quickly sent to OVW.
Punk also briefly reflected on walking out of WWE in 2014 (once again in that same building), apologising to fans in attendance and at home who were disappointed they didn't get to see him that night.
With that, he signed with RAW and declared he'd come home.
Punk wasn't able to celebrate for long, though, because World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins then made his way out and stared the former AEW star down. Rollins disputed that WWE is Punk's home and called him out for the fact he'd spent the better part of a decade talking trash about him and everyone else backstage.
The champion made it clear that he intends to wrestle circles around Punk and expose him for the fraud he is. Once he'd said his piece, the Best in the World fired up and declared that he's entering next year's Royal Rumble match...and if he wins, he's coming for Rollins and his title.
Throughout the show, Punk also crossed paths with other Superstars backstage, including The Judgement Day, Drew McIntyre, and his old friend Kofi Kingston.
It appears his first match back in WWE will be the one which was his last nearly a decade ago. Seeing as the Royal Rumble PLE takes place at the end of January, it seems likely he'll appear sporadically between now and then, similar to other part-time wrestlers like Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns.
