Much to the shock of, well, everyone, WWE was deemed an "essential business" by officials in Orlando, Florida. Less shocking was the fact that decision was made the same day WWE made a huge donation to President Donald Trump's re-election campaign in the state, and the company has now come under fire from Conan O'Brien.
The late night talk show host addressed the impact of COVID-19 in Orlando during his show last night, and then singled out WWE's wrestlers as deserving a hat tip alongside other essential workers...you know, doctors, nurses, grocery workers, and delivery drivers!
It's all tongue on cheek, but quite a shot at WWE, and a number of WWE Superstars are shown, including Mojo Rawley, Roman Reigns (clearly, no one told Conan about him heading home), Natalya, and Sasha Banks. It's all in good fun, but probably not the sort of media attention WWE needs or wants right now as they continue coming under fire from all angles for the way they're handling business during the pandemic.
For now, they will continue to hold shows in the empty WWE Performance Center, but ratings are dropping, and no one is sure whether that's due to a lack of interest or people being unhappy with WWE right now.
