As we've previously told you, the expectation is that former AEW star Cody Rhodes will be revealed as Seth Rollins' opponent at WrestleMania this weekend. It's been said that the American Nightmare has signed a deal with WWE after they initially failed to reach an agreement following his departure from the company he helped found, but the story may have an unexpected twist.
According to Dave Meltzer, there are people close to Rhodes who still believe he could back out of the Show of Shows. We find it hard to believe he's not locked into a contract, and if he no-shows the PPV and returns to AEW, it will be the biggest, weirdest swerve we've ever seen in the pro wrestling world. The question is, if Cody doesn't appear at WrestleMania, who will Rollins face?
Shane McMahon is reportedly going to be in Dallas for WrestleMania weekend, and while Meltzer believes it's just to see The Undertaker be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame, we can't help but wonder if he'll face Rollins. Remember, that was the plan before the way he booked the men's Royal Rumble match led to a falling out with his father and creative plans for him being abandoned.
For what it's worth, Meltzer seems pretty sure the WWE Creative team hasn't talked about Shane since January, but it's clear at this stage we can't 100% guarantee that Rhodes will be at WrestleMania.
Stay tuned for updates.
