For reasons which still aren't entirely clear, WWE has stripped Sami Zayn of the Intercontinental Championship. There have been rumblings it could be because he's unable to travel from Canada, but a lot of fans are unhappy with the decision, especially as the title gave him some serious momentum on SmackDown.
It is what it is, though. and we now have an Intercontinental Championship Tournament to name a new champion.
On last night's SmackDown, Elias squared off with old rival King Corbin. During the match, the heel smashed up Elias' guitar on the ring post, but the musician retaliated with a knee strike and an inside cradle for the 1-2-3.
In the second qualifying match, Daniel Bryan faced his new ally Drew Gulak in a terrific match. Ultimately, though, the leader of the Yes Movement walked away with the win thanks to a submission with the heel hook. Now, they both advance in the Tournament, and we'll have details for you a little later on who will be competing during next week's SmackDown.
For now, you can check out some highlights from both matches in the players below. Are you glad Bryan and Elias ultimately emerged victorious during last night's show?
