David Arquette is far from a big star in Hollywood which could very well explain why he claims to be training for an in-ring return! Regardless, he was a household name (well, sort of) in the early 2000s and that's why WCW ended up enlisting him to appear on Nitro and ultimately win the WCW Championship.
During a recent interview, Arquette explained why Vince Russo thought that his unexpected (and ultimately extremely controversial) title win was a good idea for the company. "I actually recently talked to Vince Russo on his podcast. And then, he explained it to me. He said that part of the reason he thought it would be alright because when I first got there, I was running around."
"I did something with, Jarrett, Jeff Jarrett, and I had his guitar and I went around all the wrestlers and had them sign it. I was just a fan. And he was like, and that was part of the reason I was different. I wasn’t just an actor. I was truly a fan of wrestling, so that’s kind of the idea behind it."
Crazy, right? To further reiterate that, Arquette pointed out that even he thought him winning the company's top championship wasn't the right move. "Yeah, I said I didn’t think it was a good idea!" Arquette said. "But, then, after a few minutes, I thought it would be fun just to travel and get a little taste of the business. So yeah." And that pretty much says it all about why WCW died...
