While WWE will have quite a bit more money to play with once their new television deals kick in, it doesn't appear as if any amount will win back Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. In recent years, The Great One has been cemented as an A-List movie star and his appearances in the squared circle have become more and more sporadic. Now, Dave Meltzer notes that his wrestling career is likely over.
"There’s too much money in him," Meltzer explained in a recent podcast. "He got hurt he had a hernia the year before he tore the hamstring. So it’s like he’s been getting hurt in his matches already. When you get hurt once you go, ‘it’s one time’ but when you’re getting hurt a lot it’s probably not a good idea especially as he’s getting older and as muscular as he is."
The longtime wrestling journalist went on to reveal that The Rock most definitely still loves WWE but there are factors which ultimately make the possibility of him lacing up his boots again unlikely.
As amazing as it would be to see Johnson wrestle again, he's now 46 and is very busy in Hollywood so the chances of him being able to wrestle with all those insurance issues are slim. We'll have to wait and see, of course, but what's really interesting about this is whether or not the same will soon be the case for John Cena even though he does now only seem to wrestle a few times a year.
