WWE Champion Drew McIntyre has revealed that there were plans in place for him to face The Undertaker at WrestleMania 26 in 2010. At the time, WWE was giving the young wrestler a big push, but ultimately decided to pull the plug because they didn't believe he was ready (instead, the Deadman would face Shawn Michaels in what proved to be HBK's retirement match).
"The inevitable goal was to have a big match between him and I," McIntyre said of The Undertaker. "Unfortunately, I wasn’t ready at the time. Things worked out the way it worked out. I believe it led to, instead of myself and Undertaker, Shawn Michaels and Undertaker, the retirement match, which was obviously a phenomenal match. I could not have delivered on that level at the time."
McIntyre noted that when he recently got to work with The Undertaker, "I think I may have dropped into conversation about there’s a certain match I was promised about 10 years ago." He also adds that winning the WWE Championship and facing the legendary wrestler have always been among his career goals, and now he's done the former, the latter is hopefully next for him.
