WWE Champion Drew McIntyre recently made an appearance on SiriusXM's Busted Open Radio, and the subject of his WrestleMania match against Brock Lesnar obviously came up. Explaining that he was a little nervous for arguably the biggest bout of his career, the Scottish Superstar also talked about the atmosphere in the empty WWE Performance Center.
"It wasn’t until I was actually in the building. I was backstage waiting for my entrance at WrestleMania…it was silence," he explains. "There wasn’t 80,000 people screaming, it was complete silence. I was wondering ‘what is going to happen here? Like how are we going to do this?’ And when my music hit and I don’t know what happened. I just slipped straight into the zone."
Interestingly, McIntyre went on to make some surprising comments about working with Lesnar. "[He] came out there and if you saw the look in his eyes? He was ready to go. He’s not phoning this in, he was ready to fight. And if you could have read my mind? You know, people would think I’m insane! But what was really going through my head was ‘if you try any funny business in this match Brock? I will drop where you stand.'"
We're sure Lesnar wouldn't have gone into business for himself, but it's no secret that he delivered some real blows to Braun Strowman after the Monster Among Men accidentally hit him for real. "It seems a bit crazy to say but that’s exactly what’s going through my head you know?" McIntyre continued. "When I’m out there I’m Drew McIntyre, I’m in the moment, I believe it. And that’s exactly what it was that night."
