Could WWE be about to lose one of its biggest Superstars?
In what can only be described as an unwelcome development before the Show of Shows, PWInsider is reporting that while the Scottish Warrior's contract isn't ending "imminently," it is in its final year.
That means this could be his final WrestleMania and, as of right now, it's said that both sides "aren’t even close" to reaching a new agreement. This is troubling on many levels as it suggests there's something of an impasse between the two sides that may or may not be resolved in the months ahead.
McIntyre left WWE before and found a great deal of success; the difference now, of course, is that he could head to AEW.
Something tells us WWE will probably find a way to make this right and give McIntyre what he wants. Simply put, the former WWE Champion is too big of a star to lose, especially to a rival company that's been struggling to gain momentum lately.
Early plans called for McIntyre to headline WrestleMania in a match against Cody Rhodes and Seth Rollins for the world title. However, that changed when The Rock didn't come back to battle Roman Reigns for the Universal Championship.
Tonight, McIntyre and Sheamus will challenge for Gunther's Intercontinental Title in a Triple Threat Match, and if WWE puts the belt on the Scottish pro wrestler, that could be an indication they're trying to make him happy.
After all, it's hard to escape the feeling WWE dropped the ball by not having him win the world title in front of his home crowd last September at Cardiff's Clash at the Castle.
Stay tuned for updates.
