It's been confirmed today that the XFL will be relaunched in 2022 under the ownership of former WWE Superstar Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.
As we reported last month, Johnson teamed up with business partner Dany Garcia to purchase Vince McMahon's bankrupt football league, paying a whopping $15 million for the failed business. Now, the Hollywood A-Lister has taken to Twitter to share an update on his XFL plans.
"XFL returns SPRING 2022," he says. "As owners, we’re proud to champion our XFL players, coaches, cities and fans into an electrifying 2022 season! It’s an uphill battle – but we’re hungry, humble and no one will outwork us. A league of culture, passion & purpose."
The XFL was doing pretty well before COVID-19 hit, and with Johnson in charge, chances are it will truly take off. After all, he's bound to be hands on, and this is just another way for the Great One to expand his reach in the entertainment world.
