Recently, former TNA World Heavyweight Champion EC3 had an interview with Fightful.com regarding a slew of topics on his wrestling career, including the reason behind leaving the company that made him a main event star.
Shortly after being released from his first stint with WWE, EC3 made his debut with TNA/Impact Wrestling as the nephew of then TNA President Dixie Carter. Since the moment he made his debut for the company, the 37-year-old was treated like a star and won the TNA World Heavyweight Championship on two occasions.
However, with his deal coming to an end in early 2018, the Ohio native ultimately decided that it was time to move on and according to EC3 himself, one of the reasons he decided to not re-sign with TNA/Impact Wrestling was due to the many changes going on behind the scenes (Transcript courtesy of SEScoops):
“I decided to leave early because of the transitions going and I just thought it was a good time for other people to step up and a good time for me to challenge myself somewhere else at the moment. I had to do something different especially [with] where my personal life was at the time, I needed a big change.” said EC3. “At the time I was pretty well compensated so I think they were okay with taking me off the books because they also wanted to build new and fresh people”.
During the interview, EC3 also states he wanted to return to the WWE because there are goals he still wanted to accomplish. Check out the full interview where he talks about Braun Strowman, founding AIW, and so much more!
