Former AEW Champion Jon Moxley has never shied away from speaking his mind, especially when it comes to his former promotion.
While chatting to wife and fellow ex-WWE star Renee Paquette (congrats on the new baby, guys) on her Oral Sessions podcast, the one-time Dean Ambrose explained why he feels WWE promos are so terrible these days while talking about his new book and how decided what to include.
“As far as what to put in and what not, it’s kinda like a wrestling match or like a promo. That’s why WWE promos f***ing suck because they jam 5,000 f***ing words in there that aren’t necessary. Say what you want to say, mean what you want to say, get your point across. ‘I’m gonna beat your a** on Saturday night because I don’t like you.’ Boom, done.”
“And sometimes in a match, it’s like okay, we planned out all these f***ing spots but really, what is the story?", he continued. "What are we trying to get (across)? You’re the good guy, I’m the bad guy, you’re big, you’re small, you’re tall, you’re short – whatever the contrast of styles or the story we’re telling. Why do we have all (this)? Sometimes, you just look at it and go ‘We don’t need all that extra s**t.’”
While it's hard to argue with Mox's points here, it's important to note that not everyone benefits from being able to cut an off-the-cuff promo. They may sound bad scripted, but they sound even worse when they're given an open mic! Just look at some of the cringe-inducing nonsense we've heard from certain AEW stars over the past few weeks.
What do you guys make of Moxley's comments? Do you agree that WWE's promos have gone rapidly downhill?
