Earlier this year, Cody Rhodes shocked the wrestling word when he decided to leave AEW. Speculation immediately started running rampant he would sign with WWE, and the suggestion in recent weeks has been that the American Nightmare will square off with Seth Rollins at WrestleMania.
There are only two episodes of RAW left before the Show of Shows takes place, so time is running out if WWE hopes to sell more tickets for the PPV based on Rhodes' return. However, with PWInsider now reporting that multiple sources have told them he signed a deal with the company 10 - 14 days ago, WWE might just be hoping this will be enough to have that CM Punk effect.
We are, of course, referring to the fact Punk's AEW debut wasn't confirmed before the second episode of AEW Rampage was held in Chicago, but there were enough reports and rumours that a record-breaking number of viewers still tuned in. Based on what the site is saying, the plan is for Rhodes to debut at WrestleMania, so he'll either be announced in advance or Rollins will issue an open challenge.
The plan is for Rhodes to be part of the RAW brand moving forward, and it should be interesting seeing how he's booked. The hope is he'll be treated like a main eventer, though you never know with WWE. However, given the buzz he's generated in AEW, they'd be fools not to push him in a big way.
Keep checking back here for updates as we have them!
