It's been confirmed today that former UFC Heavyweight Champion and WWE Superstar Cain Velasquez is facing charges of Attempted Murder after a shooting in California last night. He's being held without bail and is due to appear in court tomorrow, so this is clearly a very serious situation.
A man had been taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, so that's definitely good news, but if Velasquez pulled the trigger, he could be facing decades behind bars.
"Cain Velasquez was the suspect arrested yesterday in connection with this incident," reads a statement from San Jose Police shared alongside the mugshot you see below. "He was booked into Santa Clara County main jail for attempted murder. The motive and circumstances surrounding this incident are still under investigation at this time."
Velasquez famously beat Brock Lesnar for the UFC title in 2010 and retired from the octagon in 2019. He'd later make his WWE debut in 2019, and while he squared off with The Beast (and lost) in a mostly forgettable bout in Saudi Arabia, that was pretty much it for his career with the sports entertainment giant after injuries sidelined him and he released in 2020 during the pandemic.
He's since made a handful of pro wrestling appearances, but we're guessing it will be a while before he steps back into the squared circle. As always, keep checking back here for the latest.
