CM Punk return confirmed?
The former WWE Champion has made it clear since his return to the spotlight in professional wrestling that he’s willing to lace up the boots for the right amount of money; however, which wrestlers would the 41-year-old prefer to fight? On the Swing & Mrs podcast, Punk named three WWE talents that could coax him out of retirement, with the right amount of money, of course:
“As far as people that I’ve worked with before, if there was a clean slate, if the money was right, I think a guy like Daniel Bryan, I would go, ‘I would listen to your idea.’ If you said John Cena, I’d probably listen to your idea. Rey Mysterio, I would listen to your idea.”
Punk famously fought John Cena at Money in the Bank in 2011 for the WWE Championship. However, the two have faced off against each other at various points in their careers, with their last encounter being on the Feb. 25, 2012 episode of RAW. Punk had a mini feud against Bryan for the WWE title during the summer of 2012 and the “Straight-Edge” superstar feuded with Rey Mysterio at WrestleMania XXVI, Extreme Rules, and Over The Limit.
In terms of a wrestler that he’s never stepped into the ring with, the former WWE Champion stated that he’s keen on a match against New Japan Pro-Wrestling star Will Ospreay:
“For people I haven’t ever wrestled before, I think Will Ospreay, I would listen to your idea. There’s a lot of moving parts. I’m busy doing other stuff and nobody has found the right combination of ways to approach me. It’s not all up to me, ladies and gentlemen, it’s up to the people who actually run the company.”
The news of CM Punk wanting to face Will Ospreay is no surprise as the Chicago native previously stated that the former IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion was the best wrestler in the world.
