It's been over a year since Cody Rhodes decided Stardust wasn't working for him and he departed WWE but now "Cody" or "The American Nightmare" as he's become known has finally found a permanent home. After wrestling all over the world in pretty much every Indie promotion possible, he's decided to sign a contract with Ring of Honor.
He's the current Ring of Honor World Champion and after spending months working solely for them and New Japan Pro Wrestling, he clearly decided the America based promotion was a good fit. The contract signing took place at a ROH television taping in Las Vegas over the weekend which will air in October and he said this about why he signed with the company:
"I grew up in this business, I’ve seen its peaks and valleys…I know we are entering an unprecedented time in pro wrestling/sports entertainment and it’s time to put my flag in the sand. Joe Koff and his team put together such a generous offer…with some non-wrestling projects on the horizon that I hope to announce soon, and the potential of starting a family down the road…it was a perfect fit. Myself, Marty Scurll, Hangman Page, Matt and Nick Jackson…it’s the dream team…like the 1992 dream team. I have several goals in mind for myself and for ROH and I can’t wait to get started."
Specific details about the deal haven't been revealed but ROH confirms that it's the most generous offer in their history and that Cody will be there for "several years." That closes the door on a WWE return in the near future and it will now be interesting seeing what his future looks like there and how this will impact his career moving forward as a wrestler.
